Come and learn Makaton and improve your skills at supporting communication in the classroom

We're delighted to be able to offer Level 1 and 2 Makaton Training. Makaton is a communication system which uses symbols, signs and speech to encourage and enable communication. Level 1 training provides a starting point to learning Makaton and is suitable for beginners. To complete Level 2 you must have completed Level 1 within the last two years. The training is particularly suitable for Teaching Assistants who are supporting communication in the classroom. 

Come and learn Makaton in a small group- due to the practical nature of the course there is a maximum of 12 participants.

This is a one-day accredited course- please specify which date you wish to attend when booking. This accredited training is led by experienced Makaton trainer Nina Hawkins.

The cost of the training is £65pp and includes a manual and certificate. Tea and coffee is included in the price, but please bring your own lunch.

A-Fest 2026 – Celebrating Autism and Autistic Voices


The Springfields Academy is proud to announce A-Fest 2026 taking place on Tuesday 24 February 2026, dedicated to celebrating autism, championing autistic voices, and sharing best practice in neuro-affirming education and support.

A-Fest 2026 will bring together autistic individuals, families, education professionals, researchers and practitioners for a programme designed to celebrate lived experience, deepen understanding, and strengthen inclusive approaches across education and care settings.

The event will open with a keynote address from Dr Angela King, late-discovered autistic advocate, exploring the theme “Autistic Belonging: One Culture, Many Lives”. Delegates will then have the opportunity to attend four workshops, chosen from a programme of more than 20 sessions led by experienced autistic speakers, specialist educators and sector-leading professionals. Topics include grief and autism, advancing inclusive practice, comic strip conversations, intersectionality and autistic identity, sensory regulation, and supporting autistic mental health.

Tickets are priced at £80 per person, which includes access the keynote address, four workshops and refreshments at break and lunchtime.
